When bobtailing in FedEx Ground's yards and/or customer yards, it's important that both converter dolly safety chains are hooked to tractor's D-rings. Having both safety chains attached from the converter dolly to the tractor will prevent a runaway converter dolly in case of pintle hook failure. The pintle hook latch from opening.
As a reminder, FedEx Ground converter dollies CANNOT be bobtailed on the road- meaning pulled behind a tractor with no trailer attached. As motor carrier, FedEx Ground is responsible for the safe operation of its equipment. The dangers associated with bobtailing dollies behind a tractor pose a significant safety risk.
