In light of the demonstrations happening throughout the country, FedEx Ground's top priority remains ensuring safety above all. There is no higher priority for FedEx than safety, and we are asking service providers to ensure their personnel are prepared to take measures to avoid unsafe situations and protect themselves from harm.
At FedEx Ground, we join those who are grieving the events of this past week. Service Providers are encouraged to work with FedEx Ground to understand any routes with risks to determine avoidance and work-around options. In an effort to keep safety above all during this time, it is essential that authorized officers and business contacts remain engaged with their personnel, letting them know that the following measures may enable safety.
Utilize the FedEx Ground travel authorization letter if stopped by law enforcement
Avoid know or suspected areas where protests or civil unrest is occurring
Have heightened awareness in high crime and/or protest areas, if entered
Keep clear of roads that are likely to be occupied, keep moving, avoid stopping to assess a situation and avoid bottlenecks
Lock all doors and windows, including between stops
Park in a highly visible area, especially at night, and in close proximity to the pickup/delivery point
Always be prepared with an action plan, i.e:
Know the building exits
Plan the shortest possible and safe escape
Remain safely away from glass doors and windows, if possible
If caught in crowd:
Remain calm, keep your emotions in check
Avoid confrontation by keeping your head down
move away from crowds as calmly as possible, keeping with the flow of foot traffic, not against it
Walk, do not, to avoid attracting unwanted attention
Do not get involved, do not stand out
Continue to move with the crowd until you can escape into a building or side street to get away from the crowd
Personal safety, not property, is the first consideration
Personal safety should never be compromised. Never take unnecessary risks. All personnel should avoid unsafe situations and immediately attempt to safely leave any area where there is a heightened risk of harm.
As stated in a letter from Frederick W. Smith and Raj Subramaniam, "The unrest across the nation and grieving in our local communities are a reminder that we all must keep doing more to create meaningful change and healing...We are proud of our long-standing history of supporting and fostering relationships with organizations that are working to make our society more equitable and just."
